Pearly Gates from GM project

posted Oct 01, 2014 13:08:22 by JohnDeVries
My Pearly Gates from GM arrived! First out of the box pics! The guitar has a little heft to it and the neck is a little chunkier than the 59 VOS I got from GM a few months back.
The fret work and nibs are really well done! It has the usual grey sludge on the fret board and the frets need a quick polish with a buffing board. They did a decent job with the "relic/worn" finish.
Tuners are ok. Electronics are junk, will get retrofitted with CTS pots, new caps, Switchcraft jacks, braided wire, RH Factor PAF pickups. It needs gold top-hats. Debating all new cream plastic, the stock stuff looks to yellow.
Anyway, i'll post in progress pics!

Gutted the electronics.
CTS 500k Pots, some kind of Russian .022 caps.
Switchcraft switch and jacks.
Copper shielding tape
Braided wire
RH Factor Alinco II Hot PAFS (no squeal, sound great, $70 shipped on EBAY)
Gold Top-Hats, amber switch tip.
I have new plastic ordered and on the way, I really dislike the yellow tint.
