Forum slow/unresponsive

posted Sep 18, 2014 20:23:33 by drew
For the past several weeks, when I have attempted to read the forum, pages are extremely slow to load, or do not fully load (requiring one or more clicks on the "reload" command) or both. Have others been experiencing this?

Yes, it's a bit frustrating for sure.
The two most important things to remember in life: "The only time it's acceptable to work with amateurs is if you are making porn." "If you want to work with clowns, join a circus."

It's annoying and gauging by the level of double posts, widespread.
"This tasteless cover is a good indication of the lack of musical invention within. The musical growth of this band cannot even be charted. They are treading water in a sea of retarded sexuality and bad poetry." - Marty DiBergi

I get the same thing.

I actually think it's because of the forum software used, where it's an embedded iframe into the site itself. Something like vBulletin/InvisionPowerBoard/XenForo would be amazing (and costly) but even something cheap and free like PHPBB would be nice.

Depending on the web hosting provider, it would be very easy to install PHPBB.

Maybe instead of a forum software issue, the giant eye-searing pink banner about the 2014 survey on every page is causing a localized disruption in the magnetic flux of the internet, similar to a solar flare . . .

It would definitely be so much better to just use SMF or PHPBB. They're the 2 best free forums out there.

SMF has some limitations but is a little more light weight than PHPBB.

PHPBB is my go to choice if I'm not paying for something, but I use Invision on my gaming community website I run.

Hi folks,

Following this feedback I am considering migrating to a new forum but I need to recruit helpers to become first users and help move important posts and information there before we migrate completely.

See I do listen and try to react. :o)

I have messaged the site Moderators without response but if you are keen to be involved in helping to migrate to a new more responsive forum then please email chinaguitarsceptic@gmail.com with the subject FORUM HELP.

Many thanks,

CGS

Update!!

The new site and Forum is in Beta testing by those who completed my survey and also those of you who sent me messages offering FORUM HELP. Thanks to you all!

I hope to have all the bug fixes etc sorted and an announcement very soon.

In the meantime if you are interested in helping with the Beta testing then please let me know via email and I will give you the link to the test site.

Cheers,

CGS
