Pre-Wired Harnesses

posted Jun 30, 2014 10:14:05 by anantgururaj97
How reliable are these harnesses sold on eBay and how much of an upgrade are they compared to the electronics that are inside these Chinese Guitars.

Like this for example:

Thanks

It depends on the body shape I think. If you have a les paul, you should be fine with long shaft pots, but if you own a SG, you can be in trouble :)

You can fit a long shaft pot with no problem. Some people even prefer to do that. The advantage of a long shaft pot is that you can set the height of the knob as low as possible, because you use nuts or spacers on the back to set the height. I prefer to the look of the low shaft when I open the cavity, but it won't matter to the guitar which you use.

I found a really good deal locally for some Russian PIO Capacitors, 0.015uF. I'm not sure where I'm going to put them yet, either in a P90 type or an HSS Strat. Would these work better with humbuckers or P90s? Would I be right in assuming that 0.015 would make single coils far too bright?

Yes, .015 would make single coils unbearably bright.

With caps, the higher the value the less low end frequencies they remove. Single coil pickups are really bright, so you don't want to make them brighter by removing the low end. So they usually use a .047 cap.

Where a .015 cap can do magical things is in a neck humbucker. Clapton used a .015 in the neck of his "Fool" SG. I found the neck pickup in my own Goth SG was a bit too dark, so I used a .015 in that guitar. It brightened the pickup just enough.
