REG Website

posted Apr 29, 2014 19:31:08 by MichaelWamback
I just discovered there are 2 different websites for Rare Electric Guitar. Even though they look very much the same, the content on both is quite different. One is "rareelectricgutiar.com" and the other is "rareelectricgutiar.com" (singular instead of plural.)

When I went to the rareelectricguitar.com website, there was a link on it for "custom made". When I clicked on that, I was just blown away by what they were offering. They are even offering to make the Dave Stewart Blackbird guitar by Deusenberg. Even Mustang double necks and Bo Diddly box guitars. Just page after page of custom guitars that I've not seen any other builder even attempt. Pretty amazing stuff - and they apparently only require a $50 deposit to build a custom guitar, and then you make the balance of the payment after you have seen the photos and before they ship. I wish all the sellers did that - it would mean zero chance that a guitar would ship until you are satisfied with it.

They are offering the Page guitar - and I'm thinking about them for sure. A bit more money, but the body shape of their LP's are spot on.

They also post a lot of specifications as to what goes into their guitar - even including how many coats of clear they spray before polishing, and the fact that they polish by hand rather than machine buff. They also suggest that their custom guitars are now shipping with either carbon or bone nuts instead of plastic (but I'd still be concerned if they notch them too deep.)

Really worth checking out though. I bought my EDS-1275 from them, and while not perfect and needed some work, I've been extremely happy with the guitar.

Strangely when i try and go to either site Avast AV blocks my attempts as it says there is a virus on the website.

Anyone else get this problem?

Jason,
I get that too. Avast! AV is very sensitive, causing lots of false positives. (one of the reasons I like it, better to be overly safe) But it also looks like the site may be using aggressive tracking cookies/data mining software.

Edit:
I would also be leery of the fact that there are two sites. Are both legit? Or is one a malicious clone of the other? Just a mirror server? rareelecticguitar(s) is through the registrar GoDaddy while "rareelectricguitar" has the registrar of Foshan Yidong Network Co. LTD. Both are operating on servers named F1G1NS1.DNSPOD.NET and F1G1NS2.DNSPOD.NET.

They've got a few James Hetfields on the one with the S that the other doesn't carry.

It's where I got my JH3

EDIT: Both are legit. Both work through the same email, too.

I always get a 404 error, on both websites. Am I doing something wrong?

Avast always blocks the REG website.

I actually had to get rid of Avast. I was getting a lot of freezing on all my computers with Windows 8.1 - and it turns out that 8.1 has it's own anti virus software. It was conflicting with the Avast that I'd used for Avast. Deleted Avast, and everything has run fine since.

They are both legit sites, as far as I can tell. Same contact info and everything - even same theme. But the singular one has a lot of guitars the other doesn't show.

It may be that they are trying to make sure people who type in the website and put a S on rareelectricguitar still get directed to their website..... altho I see they have the sammy hagar explorer on both sites at different prices.
http://www.rareelectricguitar.com/Sammy-Hagar-Signature-Explorer-sale_2064.html
503.00 shipped
and
http://www.rareelectricguitars.com/The-Red-Rocker-Sammy-Hagar-Guitar_890.html
485.00 shipped
When I was looking around to have my guitar built I went to reg but clicked on customs and ended up at http://www.artemiscustomguitar.com/ which is aparently if you want a custom made etc.. http://www.rareelectricguitar.com/W-388-Our+Custom+Service.html has links to artemis so they cover all the bases.

I maybe wouldn't take everything there as being perfectly exact examples of what they can do. For example, at least one of the custom guitars has a Sustainiac installed and they are not able to actually do that when I asked yesterday.

From my experience, certain parts seem to be very difficult to get in China - and if they don't fake those parts then you are out of luck.

Sent me a picture of a set neck for my Firebird build this morning :( Headstock looks nice though :)
I've replied appropriately as a thru-neck was one of the points discussed before an order was placed.

How does REG ship? Do they use the same yellow trapezoid as the Ali sellers?

Tom, as John said they ship in the same boxes.

Here's a video of my unboxing for the ESP MX-250II explorer from REG if you want to see the packaging. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKeVJ5VSuaQ
