semi active wiring

posted Apr 27, 2014 23:17:00 by WayneJohnson
Hi...

not necessarily a chinese guitar thing but I am trying to find info on the semi active pickup wiring used by bc rich. Specifically on the mockingbird sl. As far as I can gather it had 2 humbuckers with coil split and phase switch. A varitone circuit and a switch that turned on some sort of pre-amp.

the pre-amp bit is what I am interested in.. and having scoured thd information super highway.. I am very much drawing a blank.

anyone have any insight?

Seymour Duncan sells a modular preamp for blackouts. Not sure if this is anything around what you're looking for, but the first thing that came to mind when you mentioned using passive pickups in an active circuit:

EMG also makes two versions of preamps, but they don't exactly work "always on" like the Seymour Duncan I linked above.
