Has anyone used the "Faber E-Sert" conversion posts?

posted Apr 25, 2014 11:47:52 by BenC
As the title suggests, has anyone used these on their Chibson? How do they fit? and is the spacing correct for a metric style bridge?

The spacing will remain the same,as it is center to center which you cannot change. It is whether the bridge bush is the same diameter .You will then have to find a bridge with the correct spacing for the post size.

No, but I'm leaning toward using them. I'm thinking that the Faber E-Sert and the Tonepros AVR-II are going to work, based on my measurements. I don't think it's perfect, but I think it's going to be close enough to try. I'm sure Faber's own bridge will fit, but they tend to be expensive - although great quality.

Anyway, worst case is that I'll have learned something new - and be out of pocket a few bucks.

Philadelphia Luthier Tools and Supplies have a metric ABR-1 that I'm hoping will fit these posts, and a nice aluminium stop tailpiece that I'll probably order too. Just waiting for the Chibson to arrive so I can do some measurements before I start buying parts.

I considered Tonepros, but couldn't really justify putting a $100 bridge on a $300 guitar haha.

I read somewhere that Tonepros and Gotoh are the same, just with locking studs and a hex screw to hold the bridge/tailpiece on, is that true?

Yes, Gotoh and Tonepros are the exact same bridge, only Tonepros have been modified to add the set screw that locks the bridge to the post.

You should check Ebay. You can get a Tonepros bridge any day of the week for under $50. They make a lot of different models. Some are un-notched, and others come with factory notches. I've used the pre-notched bridges on several Epiphone guitars I own, and they are fantastic. They make a large bushing "metric" bridge that should be a drop on replacement for most Chibsons, as well as a USA speck (Nashville) bridge for Gibsons.

You can search Google Images and find specs for their bridges.

This is the GOTOH metric size for ABR-1 and Nashville bridges
104 is the ABR-1
103 is the Nashville
One quick look on Ebay.com gives a price from 17usd to 45usd
