Murfreesburo, TN One Guy Runs A muck

posted Mar 31, 2014 23:55:56 by DavidJohnson
Of all places, Murfreesburo, TN there's an idiot that traveled all around his town to different pawn shops sell his fake Gibsons. Think about it. He actually thought that he could sell 7 Fakes and make a ton of money! But, one Pawn Shop owner got concerned about the quality of the guitar and took it to a music shop to find out it was a fake from China! So, the POLICE run that program they have with the guys ID and come up with 6 others he had cheated out of thousands of dollars! Also it seems he had plenty of backups ready to continue the thefts.
So, he's in the Town Jail waiting to be tried on Theft and selling Fake Goods which he could get 3-5 years! What a Dummy! These fakes, IM TOLD were straight from China not ONE Improvement. Teaches ya that you MAY screw over some people but not all of them. Think about the other 6 shops that had purchased those fakes...NOT KNOWING and later learned they were fakes and worth Nothing. Have a good one.

If they charge him with trafficking in counterfeit goods, the first offense fine is up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $2,000,000. Second offense those penalties double.

(And importing one guitar is not going to get you charged with trafficking. Selling a truck load of fakes will.)

The guy that was selling them is now saying that he was hired by a "dealer" who told him that the guitars were Gibson rejects from their Nashville plant that were sent to China to be refurbished and then returned for sale for $800. He says he kept $40 for each one sold, and the rest of the money went to the dealer. Apparently, he gave police the dealer's contact info (which I'm guessing will be fake.) Don't know if the guy is lying, or just got used - but stupid is as stupid does. He still should have known better.

He'll find out it just ain't worth it. Worse than the legal penalties, imagine what the lawyers will cost. You can even be innocent and the lawyers will bankrupt you... And should you run out of money before your case is over, the lawyers stop working on your case and you're totally screwed.

Just not worth it. Pay your $300 and enjoy your guitar and consider it has depreciated by $300. Heck, a new Gibson off the rack will depreciate that much the moment you walk out of the store.

Unless they can prove that the guy knew he was selling fakes, he will probably walk.

I don't think he's going to walk. He sold 8 Chibsons to different pawn shops (and they usually keep a record of your id when you sell them anything, in case it's stolen) - not to mention that he had dozens more in his home when they raided him. None of the Chibsons had been used or worked on - all of them were fresh off the boat from China. His best bet might be if there really is a "dealer" he was working for, and if he can help the police to catch them. Big fish for little fish - so he might be able to get the charges reduced, but I doubt he's going to walk.
