I really need to put my hands on a new guitar!

posted Mar 17, 2014 13:39:57 by GsxJones
Im based in the North East of the UK,and yesterday visited a guitar show, where somebody had for sale a very unusual single pickup 58 style flametop LP. It had obviously been set up well and played beautifully, but unfortunately,I didnt have enough cash with me. The seller (dealer selling on behalf of a customer for the show)explained it wasnt an american guitar, but a chinese copy. lol. I was amazed. I own a couple of genuine USA Lp's (std and 3 pickup custom)and would have happily placed the chinese guitar along side them for playability/sound. Plus the chinese one looked better than my guitars! It took me a while to search the net to find any sellers, but now Im here! Having seen some of the guitars people have bought,Im now torn between a gold top LP,a EVH type guitar or a nice flame top LP. Ive enjoyed reading other peoples post's,but Im still nervous to jump in with my plastic bank card. Once I take the plunge,I'll report back with what Im ordering and we can see how it goes? Any advice greatfully received!! Thank you,Brett.

Not sure the Chinese truss rods are double action - as they tend to be a bit more expensive than the single action truss rods. But you are right, it won't show in the photos as the head for the allen key is inside the neck opening. But the truss rod will be there.

Single and double action both do the job - but the advantage of double action is that they tend to be a bit more stable when dealing with changes in temp and humidity. But either can be adjusted just fine.

Now that is properly cool - really needs a zebra pickup but apart from that it looks pretty much perfect - what did she charge you for that btw?

Thanks for the kind comment.
I kind of like the look of it,its a bit of a cyclops with the one pup. lol. A bit ugly. lol.
Your right,a zebra will look much better than the chrome covered rubbish in it now.
I'm beginning to wish Id asked for a different colour on the top,but it's done now,so I will live with it.
I asked for one piece body, one piece neck and a brown hard case, which came in at £256.00. I dont remember what that was in dollars?
When I think about it,£256 for a one off guitar with a hard case, shipped half way around the World, its a good buy! A new Seymour Duncan pup, some pots and a set up it will hopefully be a nice little play thing. Im tempted to try a Floyd trem lock now Ive read a bit about them. lol. It defeats the object of buying a guitar with a trem, but I like the look of them. lol.

Ive learned one or two things about ordering guitars from China as well. Tell them what you want exactly,be polite to them, and things should go smoothly.
Next time,I'll make sure to ask for the colour top I really want as well as asking for a non-dyed wood finish on the rear and the neck. Silly thing's that I didnt really think about until the pic's came my way.
All in so far,I cant fault Cathy and her service. We'll see if my thoughts change when the guitar lands at my doorstep! lol.

Honestly, Floyds are no troube at all if you set them up properly - as a hint, only change one string at a time - if you take them all off it will take an age to get it balanced right - alternatively of you do decide to take them all off, put a block under the vback of thetrem so it os slightly higher than it would sit ormally, then string it and tune it to pitch, when you take the block out it should be sitting about right - took me bloody ages to find that out :) You are right £256 shipped is a bargain especially with a case. I'm kind of tempted myself - hmmmmm the question is will my significant other kill me or not .........

I used to have a Kramer Barretta with the Floyd as well as a Kramer Striker (the worst guitar Ive ever owned!),again with a Floyd Rose type thing. I do seem to remember changing one string at a time on those. I think on the barretta I had to cut the ball ends off the strings too,but not on the Striker?
Im just hoping it's not a complete pain to set up? It's such a long time ago since I owned a Floyd Rose type trem I cant recall how to adjust the height, for getting the action where I'll like it? Youtube will no doubt have the answer!
Reading elsewhere about shipping time's,I think I'll order some part's for it,so that when it arrives I can modify it straight away.

I was promised a tracking number the other day,but havent had one yet. Never mind, hopefully the guitar might be on its way?
With the thing's happening with custom's in various location's,Im nervous in case anything happens with my guitar. I really really really want to place an order for another new LP/ES335,but Im hanging fire until this one arrives. The blooming govt cant keep it's nose out of anything! The have to employ people to spoil our fun!

Will it get thru UK custom's. Finger's crossed.
Im gutted at the thought of this. Thing's were going so well, but I have this feeling of dread as to what could or might happen now?

You should be able to ask Cathy about the tracking number. She got me mine today and its well on its way.

I wouldn't worry too much. US Customs has nothing to do with UK Customs. I haven't seen anyone with trouble from UK Customs currently. :)

Cathy sent me a tracking number, but no verification code to enter when tracking?? Im in a bit of a hurry,as I should have been somewhere else by now! I'll try again later.
If Cathy still had the guitar,I would have asked to have the headstock oversprayed black. Black over the finished logo'd headstock. I could have then flattemed the black off to remove it and then re-polished the original logo'd headstock.
Out of interest,if anybody reads this who is UK based, what time frame will I be looking at to get the guitar now its (allegedly)on its way?

This is the tracking number.
EE983103946CN but with no verification code???

(Also Cathy told me to go to WWW.EMS.com which is Eastern Mountain Sports! LOL). (Maybe Cathy supplies them too!)

The verification code appears underneath when you enter the tracking number. You just have to type it into the other window and it takes you to the next screen.
God give me patience ... but I want it NOW!!
